Nominations for 2022
Now – August 15
We believe leadership is exercised better together – with pastors, elders, and deacons working together to represent Jesus and carry out the work of the Spirit. We have three groups of leaders who carry out distinct responsibilities in our church:
Ministering Deacons lead the church in ministries of justice, mercy, and compassion. Deacons are to be servants, following Jesus’ example of servanthood in word and deed. In MDRC at The Bridge, deacons oversee the benevolence and missions ministries of the church. Specifically, they decide who will receive our communion offerings, select and support our overseas missionaries, support our local outreach ministries and approve the benevolence budget. See page 19 in The Book of Church Order (BOC) Part 1, Section 1, Article 6 as defined by the RCA.
Pastoral Care Elders “are responsible for community, woven together by Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit—a community that points to the fellowship of the kingdom of God.” (RCA) They shepherd the congregation through the administration of the sacraments, prayer and care for individuals, hearing professions of faith, teaching, and guiding. See page 19 in The Book of Church Order (BOC) Part 1, Section 1, Article 8 as defined by the RCA
The Administrative Board of the Consistory is composed of elders and deacons whose role is to provide for the general spiritual and program oversight of the church through ongoing vision casting and long-range planning. They are to provide support and oversight of the Lead Pastor and ensure the church is fulfilling its mission.
If you or someone you know would be interested in serving in one of these roles, nominations are received from mid-July to mid-August by submitting an electronic nomination form below. (You can click on it during the time it’s active). We would also encourage you to refer to the following passages that speak to the qualifications of spiritual leaders (Acts 6:1-7; 1 Tim 3:1-13; Titus 1:6-9; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Matthew 20:26; John 13:13-17; Romans 12:3-8)
